CAD $45,000 – $50,000 per year ($25 per hour depending on experience)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Read and interpret work orders
• Operate metal cleaning equipment such as wheel abrators, deburrers and shot blaster store move excess welds, rust, scale and other material from surfaces of metal parts, casting sand other metal products
• Polish metal products to mirror finish
• Immerse metal products in cleaning solutions
• Assist structural steel and plate work fitters, sheet metal workers, metal working machine operators or other metal workers
• Transport raw materials and finished metal products manually or using hoists or other devices
• Sort metal sheets and parts, scrap metal and other materials
• Clean work areas and equipment
• Load and unload vehicles using hand truck or dolly
• May cut, grind or chip excess metal from metal products using hand tools.
• Operate light metalworking machines such as shears, brakes, punches, and drill presses, including computer numerical control (CNC) equipment to cut, bend, punch, drill, shape or straighten sheet metal
• Assist in Install and use rigging and hoisting equipment
• Assist heavy equipment operators to secure special attachments to equipment, signal operators to guide them in moving equipment and provide assistance in other activities
EMPLOYER REQUIREMENTS:
• Experience as a turret punch press operator that produces prototype and production parts by punching them out of sheet metal according to the customer’s specifications.
• Basic knowledge of metalwork appearance codes
• Be able to identify machine axes (X, Y, Z, A)
• Assist heavy equipment operators to secure special attachments to equipment, signal operators to guide them in moving equipment and provide assistance in other activities
• Inspect and verify parts to ensure that they meet the requirements
• Check products for correct shapes, dimensions, and other specifications
• Create ECRs and identify opportunities for improvement
• Forklift certification
• Be able to perform basic machine maintenance; troubleshoot and perform corrective action or minor repairs to ensure that they meet the requirements
• Basic mechanical blueprint reading skills; read and interpret NC setup sheets
• Physical stamina; able to stand for long periods of time
• May build staging or erect scaffolding as required for heavy metalworking jobs.
• Good verbal and written communication skills
